WIth AW14 now in full swing, here’s a round up of some key trends which may well be on your fashion wish list over the coming months.
Prints – Plaid, classic tartan and modern checks have carried over from the summer to feature heavily on the AW14 catwalks and are now a firm favourite for fashion brands this winter. Houndstooth and geometric prints will also be a popular choice. For those who prefer more feminine patterns, leopard print, snake print, 1960’s inspired florals, jacquard and brocade will add some fashionable variety.
Colours – This time of year normally sees an influx of darker hues and AW14 is no exception with deep berry colours and red in particular making a big impact. Blue will also be on every fashionista’s must-have list, so bright colours like cobalt, teal and electric blue will be great for adding pops of colour to your winter wardrobe. These will make the perfect contrast to the ‘normcore’ trend which sees the colour grey being a major fashion statement.
Textures – Shearling is a fashion favourite this winter. Look out for sheepskin lined jackets and boots with decorative sheepskin trims to add a cosy feel. Velvet returns as a traditional choice with clothing and footwear featuring the tactile fabric in dark colours. Wool also makes its annual appearance with chunky knits providing some cosy comfort.
Footwear – Shoes and boots this season will feature many of the trends detailed above, so look out for floral prints, patterns, checks and textured fabrics like tweed and velvet. Grey and navy are key colours, but bright shoes in red and shades of blue offer a chance to create a more colourful look. Embellishments are also big this winter – think statement buckles, straps and bows. Mary-Jane shoes with the strap across the foot will be a key style as will ankle boots with varying heel heights and cut-out details. Chunky shoes and chunky boots are also on trend along with over the knee boots for making a real fashion statement.
For AW14 your fashion choices are varied, you can team bold patterns with chunky knits or keep things simple with chic grey layers. Add some colour with blue shoes and accessories or channel the modern victorian style with brocade patterns and rich velvets.
